This piece focuses on the weight of shadow and the emergence of warmth from darkness. In this work I explore the concept of internal light. Using a series of overlapping layers I created a deep, recessing ground that contrasts with the application of ochre and copper tones.
The central focus is the tension between the textured foreground and the soft diffused light that appears to radiate from within the layers.
